Searching For Your Purpose Isn’t Helping You - Here’s What to Do Instead

With the coming of Spring it is time for us to collectively rise from the depths of winter and utilize the re-birthing energy of the season to begin weaving a new reality, a New Earth if you will. So many people I speak to are seeking. Many of them aren’t even quite sure what they’re seeking, only that there’s “something more” to life - more to be, more to do, more to experience. They are correct. There is something more. There is a great shift in consciousness happening on Earth at this time, and many of us are being called to consciously become a part of this great awakening. This calling sometimes begins as an awareness that you are disconnected, unfulfilled, or unsatisfied with life. These feelings of discomfort and dissatisfaction are a gift, as they give us impetus to begin change. However, it is important to stay grounded in the fact that the change we are truly seeking comes from within and does not occur through seeking purpose and change outside of ourselves.

Although seeking is a place where many of us start our path of self discovery, it is not a place to make your home. That’s not to say we shouldn’t have mentors, teachers, and guides, but these people should lead you more deeply into yourself above all else. It’s easy to get caught up in the cycle of always wanting another class, another certification, another way of approaching healing and transformation. However, after the initial stages of our journey, what we typically are craving the most is authentic connection and a way to share our gifts and knowledge with those who find value in them. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take further classes or learn modalities you are feeling called to, but it does mean that what you are truly seeking is what you are here to create.

Many of you are beginning to wake up to the fact that you cannot live a double life forever, spending your free time and money pursuing self discovery, healing, holistic well-being, and deeper connection to yourself and the planet, and then go back to a job on Monday morning that is firmly planted in economic and societal structures that are clearly broken. We are approaching a time where many of you will be asked what you truly desire to contribute to the world, what beautiful and supportive structures you want to create for yourself and others. The inspiration for this great work can only come from deep inner connection, and this cannot be rushed. If this resonates with you on any level, I highly encourage you to set aside time every day to invite the universe to co-create with you. Perhaps you have a meditation, or a breathwork, or a somatic practice that you do every day. Take a few moments at the end of your practice to connect to your heart and ask what wants to be birthed THROUGH your being. Just sit with the feelings in the heart space and allow whatever would like to arise to arise. Perhaps it’s not much at first, or perhaps inspiration comes not in the moment, but at some point later on in the day. Just open yourself to begin to listen so that you may step into your role as a conscious co-creator with the universe.

You will know you are on the right track when what you are being called to do feels scary, when it feels like a risk. Investing in another course or another certification is easy compared to taking action on what you’ve already learned, on what you already know to be true about yourself and about the universe. Taking these risks is what will open up those deep layers of yourself, and access to those deeper layers is what you are really seeking. This REQUIRES saying yes to life and yes to yourself. Commitment to change through action signals to the universe that you are ready to unlock a new level, that you are ready to hold space for even more of your true self. Living this highest truth of your soul is the water that you thirst for, the unknown “purpose” that you are searching for.

This is not an invitation to behave irresponsibly and erratically, but rather to dig deep within yourself to begin building new structures within your life that form a bridge from what sustains your livelihood now to what you would like to sustain your livelihood. What can you build that is so beautiful, abundant, and in harmony with the Earth that others want to walk away from what they have always known to join you? It’s ok to start small, but start. You will find that when you begin committing yourself to building your heart’s true desires, that like minded people will find you and you will begin to co-create with the universe that which you have been seeking. It can only come from within you. That is why you are the one seeking it.
